More than 135 business leaders asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to recall Parliament to deal with Donald Trump’s tariff plans and threats against Canadian sovereignty. (The Logic)
Talking point: In an open letter, business leaders say the country needs a “strong, empowered, legitimate and robust government,” supported by a functional Parliament, to deal with the uncertainty and turmoil Trump has wrought. The list of signatories includes presidents and CEOs of dozens of Canadian tech companies. Among them are several high-profile supporters of Build Canada, a new platform backed by tech entrepreneurs to influence federal policy. It also coincides with a broader political shift among tech business leaders disenchanted by the Liberal government. Trudeau prorogued Parliament in January when he announced his plans to resign, giving the Liberal party time to install a new leader. MPs are not due to return to the House of Commons until March 24.
