The BC Tech Association will be closing the community hub on May 17. The 6,000-square-foot facility in Railtown was launched in September 2017 to help virtual-reality startups get off the ground. The facility relied on federal funding through the Canadian Accelerator and Incubator Program, which BC Tech said it was unable to secure moving forward. (The Logic)
Talking point: The Cube was home to over 20 AR/VR/MR tenant companies and hosted community events. It’s the second government-funded hub to shut down in B.C. in the last year. In May 2018, Wavefront closed its doors and reportedly owed $2.1 million to creditors, which included the National Research Council of Canada and the Crown corporation BC Innovation Council, known today as Innovate BC.
