Talking point: The Ontario Capital Markets Tribunal struck down Bitfarms’ original poison pill Wednesday, in response to a complaint from shareholder Riot. The Colorado-based rival miner has been steadily increasing its stake in Bitfarms to just below the 15 per cent poison pill trigger, following a failed takeover bid and in the midst of an attempt to shake up its board. In its application to the tribunal, Riot argued the 15 per cent trigger was well below the customary 20 per cent threshold and was contrary to the public interest and shareholder rights. In a release, Riot CEO Jason Les said the ruling was “a win for all Bitfarms shareholders” and praised the tribunal for acting “quickly and decisively.”
