Instacart is hiring 200 people in its Toronto office—which is also focused on engineering—and tapped Wealthsimple’s CTO to lead as vice-president of engineering. Amazon, similarly, has planned to hire 200 people in its Toronto office; Microsoft is investing $570 million into its Canadian expansion, which includes hiring 500 employees. Canada’s tech talent is attractive to growing tech companies: CBRE—which ranked Toronto among its top five markets for tech talent in North America—cited cost efficiency and friendly immigration policies as a competitive advantage.
