Talking point: Sayona is one of five lithium producers that are part of Quebec’s battery strategy, which aims to both mine and manufacture electric vehicle batteries within the province. North Carolina’s Piedmont Lithium acquired 19.9 per cent of Sayona Mining and 25 percent of Sayona Quebec in 2021. The price of lithium has plunged over 80 per cent, to about US$12 a kilogram, since March 2023.
