Talking point: The move is Amazon’s latest salvo in an increasingly hot AI race among tech giants. Last week, Amazon announced it had revamped its Alexa voice assistant, powered by a new large language model. Microsoft and Google have also recently made big AI announcements—Microsoft unveiled Copilot, its AI-powered platform for PCs, while Google disclosed a plan to integrate its AI chatbot Bard into Gmail, Google Docs and YouTube. Since its first investment in OpenAI in 2019, Microsoft has reportedly increased its bet on the ChatGPT maker to a cumulative total of US$13 billion. Former OpenAI research executives founded Anthropic about two years ago and recently introduced an AI chatbot called Claude 2.
