Talking point: Microsoft’s AI move follows other rival tech giants’ announcements this week as the race to integrate the technology into products heats up. On Tuesday, Google unveiled a plan to integrate its AI chatbot Bard into Gmail, Google Docs and YouTube. The next day, Amazon announced it has revamped its Alexa voice assistant, powered by a new large language model. Microsoft’s Copilot will use OpenAI’s ChatGPT, the AI chatbot that took the world by storm when it launched in November and sparked a wave of interest and investment in the technology. Microsoft has reportedly invested a cumulative total of US$13 billion in OpenAI.
