Talking point: The plans offer restaurateurs more flexibility, the company said. The system first launched in the U.S. in April 2021, where plans range between 15 and 30 per cent. The fees charged by food-delivery app services such as DoorDash have long been a concern for restaurants. During the pandemic, several provinces temporarily capped the fees apps could charge, and B.C. recently became the first province to make that permanent, setting maximum fees at 20 per cent of a food order’s value. Last week, DoorDash announced it was laying off 1,250 corporate workers, or six per cent of its workforce globally, saying it had over-hired amid pandemic-fuelled demand for its services.
