The Waterloo, Ont.-based firm reported US$156 million in revenue for the quarter that ended Feb. 28, up 10 per cent from the same period a year earlier and about US$10 million more than what analysts predicted. Its adjusted operating earnings were US$36.1 million, up 71 per cent year-over-year. (The Logic)
Talking point: The company’s vehicle-software division QNX helped drive the bump, increasing its revenue 20 per cent from a year earlier to reach a record US$78.7 million. Strong performance in its secure communications unit also helped lift results, with the segment’s revenue rising eight per cent to US$72.5-million, despite earlier guidance predicting sales would fall. The company is expecting growth to continue through its next fiscal year, with a period of restructuring now behind it following a leadership change in 2023. BlackBerry is predicting between US$584 million and US$611 million in revenue for the upcoming year, compared to the US$549.1 million it generated its last fiscal year.
