Brookfield is reportedly one of several private equity firms that would distribute OpenAI’s enterprise products across its portfolio companies as part of a joint venture with the ChatGPT parent company. (Reuters)
Talking point: Brookfield is trying to position itself as a major AI investor, and rivals are doing the same. The joint venture could be worth about US$10 billion and could also include TPG, Advent International and Bain Capital, Reuters reported. Participants would invest US$4 billion and get “preferred” equity stakes and early access to products, with TPG making the largest contribution. Rivals like Blackstone are reportedly holding similar discussions with Anthropic. The companies did not respond to a request for comment on Tuesday afternoon. Fidji Simo, chief executive of OpenAI’s applications division, posted on X that it has been talking with an alliance of partners and investors since December to help it build an arm focused on embedding its engineers within enterprises.
