Talking Point: The company has raised $500,000 so far, and expects to close its second tranche in February, CEO Brendon Ferguson told The Logic in a statement. On Monday it also launched its app, through which sports organizations can connect with young people to increase engagement in sports and fitness. For startups, professional athletes have become a go-to source of both investment dollars and celebrity shine. Wealthsimple counts Kelly Olynyk and Patrick Marleau among its investors, while Dapper Labs has received funds from Reform Ventures, which Thaddeus Young founded. The trend has spawned an industry that connects athletes with entrepreneurs looking for funding.
