Ontario-based auto parts maker Linamar will gain proprietary light-metal casting technology from Aludyne’s North American operations, and will expand its footprint, especially in the U.S. (The Logic)

Talking point: The deal will help Linamar make more aluminum parts—Aludyne’s specialty—in the U.S. at a time when both the auto and aluminum industries have been targeted for U.S. tariffs. Still, the company said the deal was not prompted by tariffs. Linamar’s executive chair Linda Hasenfratz told The Logic in July that the USMCA had shielded companies like Linamar from the worst of the tariffs so far. That created a window of opportunity, she said, to scoop up distressed companies that weren’t faring as well. The acquisition is Linamar’s second deal this week after it bought a ​​€45-million ($73.1 million) German factory on Oct. 7, which will beef up its technology for 3D printing and prototyping.
