Talking point: Sonos is using existing cash on hand for the acquisition, and said that more details on the deal would be provided in its quarterly-earnings call in May. Sonos CEO and former BlackBerry executive Patrick Spence said in a statement that Mayht’s technology will allow it “to take another leap forward in our product portfolio.” Mayht reportedly never planned to sell its products at retail, but instead wanted an existing speaker company to acquire it. Earlier this year, Sonos won a years-long legal battle against Google over intellectual property, with the U.S. International Trade Commission finding Google had illegally used five Sonos patents in some of its devices.
