Talking point: Properly, which raised $44 million last summer in a fundraising round led by Bain Capital Ventures, will be expanding to what is now the nation’s second most expensive housing market after Toronto. The proptech company’s service allows sellers to obtain financing for their new homes before selling their existing ones; it does that by guaranteeing it will buy the seller’s property outright if its real estate agents can’t sell it within three months. In a market where real estate in Canada’s hottest markets has been selling in a matter of days, Ruparell said Properly gives customers flexibility to decide on a home quickly. Ruparell didn’t disclose how many customers Properly has, but said it grew roughly 450 per cent in the last year. It is launching in Vancouver with 17 agents based in the area, compared with about 50 in Ontario.
