Talking point: GardaWorld’s top executives, including founder and CEO Stephan Crétier, took majority control of the company from BC Partners in a $14 billion deal that closed in March. On its website, the company is recruiting for a number of positions in southern central Florida, where the facility is located, including armed security guards, translators and janitorial workers. “Employees may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise,” according to the job descriptions. The Quebec government, which lent $300 million to GardaWorld in 2022, distanced itself from the Florida project, which has drawn the ire of human rights and environmental organizations.
