Talking point: Shopify says it has more than 10,000 Plus merchants who’ve sold billions worth of wool shoes, office supplies, chocolate and other products via its technology. More recently, the company has been taking its enterprise offering international, signing up major brands in Asia and Europe; this year, it’s investing in setting up in-country Plus sales teams in new markets, CFO Amy Shapero said on a February earnings call. Padelford is at least the fifth executive who ran one of Shopify’s key product groups to depart in the last 10 months, as CEO Tobi Lütke has retaken control over a reorganized set of product teams. Earlier this month, Vancouver-based Lynsey Thornton, the longtime leader of the core platform offering and user-experience discipline, also announced her exit.
