Talking point: Since this spring, Canadian auto plants have also faced periods of downtime, unable to complete vehicles without chips. In Ontario, Ford’s Oakville plant will reportedly suspend production the week of May 31 through the week of June 21, while the Stellantis assembly plant in Windsor has had its downtime extended since March 29. Some Canadian tech executives and investors recently launched a group to get more support for the domestic chip industry, as production has declined in recent years.
