Talking point: In 2018, Uber ATG tapped University of Toronto researcher Raquel Urtasun as the division’s chief scientist. The company’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi—new at the time—made his inaugural visit to announce a $200-million investment for self-driving R&D led by Urtasun at the unit’s Canadian headquarters at MaRS Discovery District in downtown Toronto, one of several cities in which the unit operates.
