The retailer will shutter the specialized offices in Austin, Texas; Carlsbad, Calif.; and Portland, Ore., according to a memo sent to staff last week. Workers at those locations can transfer to the company’s other primary offices. (The Wall Street Journal)
Talking point: “We’ve made the decision to focus our tech team’s presence within select locations,” a spokesperson told the WSJ. The retailer is also asking most of its global tech workers to return to the office at least two days a week. At the time, the company called its global tech division its “fastest-growing corporate team,” with more than 20,000 associates and plans to add more than 5,000 roles. Walmart Canada did not immediately respond to The Logic’s request for comment about whether the move affects the Toronto hub, or its Blue Labs innovation team launched last year.
