Employees at Walmart’s Toronto, Dallas and Atlanta offices were reportedly asked to relocate to the retail giant’s larger hubs in Arkansas, New Jersey and California. Remote workers were also told to start working out of offices. (The Wall Street Journal, Toronto Star)
Talking point: The workforce reduction will reportedly affect hundreds of corporate positions. A Walmart Canada spokesperson did not immediately confirm to The Logic how many of those eliminated positions are in Toronto. The Toronto Star, citing an anonymous source, said the cuts won’t affect operations at its Mississauga, Ont., headquarters. The move comes after Walmart last year shuttered its Toronto-based Blue Labs incubator—a unit of the company that aims to disrupt the retail industry through innovative technologies—just eight months after launch. Walmart also announced last month it would close all 51 of its health clinics in the U.S. as it trims costs.
