The column, written by Nicholas Kristof, said MindGeek-owned Pornhub, one of the most popular sites on the internet, is “infested with rape videos” and “monetizes child rapes, revenge pornography, spy cam videos of women showering, racist and misogynist content, and footage of women being asphyxiated in plastic bags.” MindGeek told The Times it was “unequivocally committed to combating child sexual abuse material” Both Visa and Mastercard said they would take action if the allegations in Kristof’s column were true. Talking point: In October, The Logic looked into the Luxembourg-based MindGeek, which was founded in Montreal, where its principal offices remain. The corporation is the sophisticated backbone behind some of the biggest porn sites on the planet. “There remains an enormous gap between MindGeek’s forward-facing image and what goes on just behind it,” read The Logic’s report. Following publication, 20 MPs and senators signed an open letter demanding an investigation into Pornhub. The Logic also reported in November that government-supported charity C3P dropped out of InHope after the global anti-child-exploitation network accepted a donation from MindGeek.
