Users will be able to make purchases with the card in a variety of international currencies. Talking point: Wise, which went public on the London Stock Exchange earlier this year, is one of many foreign fintechs looking to cash in on Canadian demand for tech-enabled financial services. It offers similar services to Revolut, a U.K.-based fintech that exited the Canadian market earlier this year after a brief pilot, citing difficulties launching all of its products in the country. In an interview, Wise co-founder and CEO Kristo Käärmann said the company has already gained traction in Canada through its account product. “We do have a substantial Canadian customer base who, over the years, have been using Wise for their international transfers,” he said.
