Talking point: Beijing is set to launch retaliatory tariffs on all U.S. goods beginning Thursday, matching the rate of additional duties Trump is imposing on Chinese goods as part of his sweeping plan for so-called reciprocal tariffs levied against much of the world. Trump said China did this “despite [his] warning” that any country choosing to retaliate would “be immediately met with new and substantially higher Tariffs, over and above those initially set.” Meanwhile, the Canadian Labour Congress held a rally in Windsor, Ont., where automaker Stellantis paused production at its assembly plant and temporarily laid off about 4,000 workers. The labour leaders urged “immediate action” to protect workers from the trade war, including making it easier to get employment insurance benefits, for longer.
