Talking point: The investment—backed by a loan of up to $40 million from the provincial government—will bring much needed jobs to a region that is struggling to cope with tariffs. Unifor and other labour groups have warned that the auto sector may try to cut Canadian jobs to deal with the new U.S. policies, and automaker Stellantis paused production at its Windsor plant this week, meaning temporary layoffs for about 4,000 workers. Although Minth is based in Taipei and this is its first Canadian plant, its owners are Taiwanese-Canadian and wanted to honour their “Canadian roots,” chief strategy officer William Chin said in a press release.
