Travel app Omio is coming to North America


The U.S. and Canada will be the first markets outside Europe for the Berlin-based online travel aggregator, which allows users to plan and book trips over several modes of transportation. (Reuters)

Talking point: Omio, which has attracted US$296 million in investor funding, said it has partnered with rail services Amtrak and Via Rail Canada; airlines Delta and United; and bus companies OurBus and Academy, with more expected down the line. The app currently has 27 million monthly active users that can compare and book over 23,000 train and bus routes, as well as flights. Omio has estimated the North American travel market is US$138 billion for air and US$8 billion for ground. The company hasn’t identified a Canadian direct competitor, though it cited Wanderu for the U.S.
