Toronto Police spokesperson Nadine Ramadan said an arrest has been made in the investigation into shots fired at the home of Patrick Dovigi, CEO of Canadian waste management company GFL, and the home of another executive of a related company. The police declined to identify the suspect, but The Globe and Mail reported that it is Ilan Philosophe, a businessman in the excavation industry. Court records show a person of that name scheduled for a Friday morning hearing focused on bail and showing cause. (The Globe and Mail)
Talking point: GFL has been the target of several attacks since 2024, including shootings, fires and vandalism damaging its property, although The Globe and Mail said that Philosophe was not charged in those incidents. Charges against Philosophe reportedly include two firearms offences and two counts of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence. The September 2024 incident included gunfire aimed at Dovigi’s Toronto home. Ramadan said the investigation is ongoing.
