The meetings, during which Tory highlighted Toronto’s expected increase in studio space capacity over the next two years, included officials from Netflix, Apple, Entertainment One, HBO, Warner, NBC Universal, Disney and Fox. Talking point: Tory is seeking to capitalize on his recent success in bringing more productions to Toronto. In February, Netflix announced it would be opening a production hub in Toronto’s Cinespace Studios, leasing four sound stages and additional office space totalling over 160,000 square feet. In 2018, Toronto’s film, television and digital media industries saw $2 billion in production investment, its highest since 2016. Hadisi said Tory “is confident that this year’s trip will produce the same results with other film and television leaders.”
