Talking point: Intrepid promises to use autonomous, AI-driven robotic lab equipment—a platform it calls “Valiant”—to find and test potential new drugs, with repeated iterations rapidly building on the previous trials. Its founding team is made up of University of Toronto academics and staff: professors Christine Allen (a pharma researcher) and Alán Aspuru-Guzik (whose AI chemistry labs project on campus received nearly $200 million in federal funding in 2023), plus scientists Pauric Bannigan and Riley Hickman. The Avant Bio partner on the venture investment, Sebastien Latapie, is a McGill University grad.
