Talking point: According to the company, roughly 79,000 restaurant locations in the U.S. use its platform. Jen DiRico, senior vice president and general manager, said in a statement that it has worked with early adopters in Canada for a year ahead of the formal launch. “Technology has proliferated in Canada’s restaurant industry,” DiRico said, adding there is “a clear opportunity” for Toast within the market. Competitor TouchBistro, a Toronto-based restaurant-management system provider, closed a $150-million fundraising round in November. It said it plans to use the money to fund more growth, including development of its products.
