The Toronto International Film Festival announced 60 films from 70 countries that will screen at its 48th annual festival in September. The show will go on despite the “solid chance” that the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and Writers Guild of America will still be on strike, festival CEO Cameron Bailey told the Toronto Star. Talking point: Along with concerns about pay, benefits and job security, AI has emerged as a hot topic in the labour dispute that has paralyzed Hollywood productions. Writers are concerned about having to share credit with software, actors are worried they’ll be replaced by digital likenesses and everyone has questions about consent and compensation when it comes to training AI models on their work. SAG-AFTRA members are barred from promoting completed work during the strike, which could mean a starless red carpet at TIFF.
