Toronto held third place for the second year in a row on the Commercial Real Estate Services (CBRE) ranking of the top 50 North American tech employment markets. Vancouver and Waterloo Region ranked ninth and 10th, respectively, with Montreal in the 11th spot. A record six Canadian cities were among the top 15 markets, including Ottawa and Calgary. Quebec City and Edmonton also made the list at number 37 and 42. (The Logic)
Talking point: CBRE also named three Canadian cities among North America’s 25 emerging tech markets: Halifax at number two, London, Ont. as fifth and Winnipeg as 11th. The ranking was based on 13 metrics—such as tech talent concentration and R&D investment—to gauge a city’s attractiveness to companies seeking tech talent and to tech workers seeking employment. This year’s report highlighted a surge in AI talent, which grew 45 per cent in a year. AI jobs tended to cluster in the top tech cities, particularly in Canada where Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver accounted for 60 per cent of these positions in the country.
