Talking point: Tesla workers were meant to view the footage to fix car problems. For instance, the assisted-driving mode, Autopilot, struggled to back out of garages because it didn’t recognize common items like garden hoses. But former employees told Reuters some recordings were also edited and shared in private group chats as memes, and that they could access location data from the recordings. One said they always joked they would “never buy a Tesla” after seeing how customers were treated. The revelations about Tesla, which makes the top-selling electric vehicles in Canada, come as its Autopilot program is already under scrutiny in the U.S. for separate issues.
