The search giant and the telecommunications firm will work together to help their joint customers in the tech, health-care, agriculture, security and connected-home industries use digital tools to become more innovative and efficient. Google also plans to help Telus update its networks and information technology using its cloud computing services. (The Logic)
Talking point: This is the fourth major cloud computing customer Google has announced in two weeks, following deals with digital-payment provider Global Payments, Twitter and bank BNY Mellon. Google and Telus were already working together on Telus International, a subsidiary of the telecommunications firm that broke the record last week for the largest tech-sector initial public offering in the history of the TSX. Examples of the type of initiatives the two companies plan to work on together include helping health-care providers collaborate and improving the traceability of agricultural products—initiatives involving two other Telus divisions, Telus Health and Telus Agriculture, that analysts expect will go public, too.
