Telus International, a unit of the telecom, is purchasing the Waltham, Mass.-based Lionbridge AI with a combination of debt and equity. Telus International expects the deal to close on December 31, and to then go public in the first quarter of 2021. (The Logic)
Talking point: This acquisition follows Telus International’s $1.3-billion purchase of Germany-based Competence Call Center, which closed in February. Both acquisitions offer content-moderation services, which Telus International sells to other firms. The parent company also reported a drop in third-quarter earnings today: $321 million for the third quarter of 2020, down from $440 million in the same period last year, partially due to a drop-off in roaming fees. Telus’s operating revenue beat analyst expectations.
