Hertz, who has served as general counsel to the e-commerce firm since late 2021, replaces Kaz Nejatian, who left Shopify about a month ago for online real estate platform and meme stock Opendoor. (The Logic)
Talking point: Prior to arriving at Shopify, Hertz served in a regulatory role at Facebook, and held positions with former U.S. president Joe Biden’s transition team and in his White House administration. Hertz said on LinkedIn that her plan as COO will be to “make the work visible, shorten feedback loops, deliver in smaller increments, own outcomes end-to-end.” Meanwhile, the company’s chief revenue officer Bobby Morrison announced he was leaving the company after roughly three years in the position, but did not say anything about his next steps. Shopify spokesperson Ben McConaghy wrote in a statement that Hertz has rewired how Shopify operates and will help it move faster.
