Talking point: Bell and Rogers currently own equal stakes in MLSE. The proposed deal, which would boost Rogers’s stake to 75 per cent, would effectively give chair Edward Rogers a monopoly on Toronto sports organizations. Rogers is also the complete owner of the Toronto Blue Jays. One analyst told the Toronto Star that the acquisition would let Rogers boost efficiency through consolidation, for example by cross-selling tickets between sports leagues.
