The bank has appointed Katherine Gibson to fill the role on an interim basis after terminating Nadine Ahn on Friday. The termination followed an internal review that determined Ahn had given preferential treatment, including promotion and pay increases, to an employee she was in an undisclosed personal relationship with, RBC said in a statement. Talking point: RBC acted on an employee tip to an internal complaint line about Ahn’s relationship with treasury department vice-president Ken Mason, The Globe and Mail reported, citing three sources familiar with the matter. Her firing takes her out of the running for the top job at RBC, at a time when succession planning at Canada’s big banks is a key point of focus for analysts and investors. It’s now even less likely that any of Canada’s Big Six banks will appoint a woman as CEO for the first time any time soon. Ahn was the only female CFO at any of the Big Six banks when RBC appointed her to the role in 2021.
