While over a third of non-queer Canadian tech employees feel workplaces are improving for 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, less than a quarter of tech workers who identified as queer believe the same, according to surveys and interviews by Montreal-based non-profit QueerTech. (The Logic)
Talking point: The report also found that while most workplaces (70 per cent) have diversity, equity and infusion initiatives, just 24 per cent of respondents said those measures were very effective. Nearly 35 per cent of respondents said they experienced workplace harassment due to their sexual orientation, and 55 per cent have been harassed due to their gender. Thirty-five per cent of queer participants also experienced discrimination in at least one job interview. QueerTech compared its results to a 2016 Telus report, which found 57 per cent of 2SLGBTQIA+ employees said their workplaces weren’t inclusive, suggesting not much has changed in the better part of a decade.
