In conjunction with private firms, including IBM Canada and Bell, the province has coordinated investments of more than $690 million over five years to establish two “innovation zones” in Sherbrooke and Bromont. (The Logic)
Talking point: More than $100 million of the investment will come from public funds, Le Journal de Québec reported. The money will go toward businesses and researchers focused on quantum computing and microchips, with the goal of attracting more foreign private investment to the areas, the Quebec government said in press releases. As part of the investment, IBM will install a quantum computer in Bromont, its fourth outside of the U.S. “Quebec has immense potential to innovate in promising fields, to be a leader in the economy of the future,” Premier François Legault said in a statement.
