Talking point: The Montreal-based freight carrier made the announcement alongside its earnings release Wednesday. Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec, which had a more than 4 per cent stake in TFI as of the end of last year, criticized the move, and a spokesperson told Bloomberg it will express its dissatisfaction with the plan. If approved by shareholders, TFI’s CEO Alain Bedard says the transport company will redomicile within the next year, but doesn’t plan to change the company’s operations or move staff south. In TFI’s earnings call, Bedard said becoming an American company would make it easier to deal with the U.S. Department of Defense, and enable it to be part of other stock indices.
