BDC Capital led the round through its Women in Technology Venture Fund, with participation from the Canadian Business Growth Fund, Whitecap Venture Partners and Mantella Venture Partners. Company spokesperson Linda North told The Logic that Felix is using the funding to incorporate labs into its patient services, allowing its physicians to prescribe HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis drugs and treatments for weight loss. Talking point: Felix specializes in prescribing and shipping medications for common conditions such as acne and rosacea, allergies, migraines, anxiety and depression. Its sexual-health service promises “no awkward conversations, just medication that works” for birth control and afflictions like herpes and erectile dysfunction. The company charges patients $40 for most physician assessments, which are mainly done through instant messages—meaning BDC, a federal Crown corporation, is backing a business that charges patients for basic health care. BDC spokesperson Jean Philippe Nadeau told The Logic that it’s supporting a company that “offers a variety of services to complement the current health-care system and improve access to healthcare for everyone.” Felix raised $10 million in a Series A round in February 2021.
