Talking point: The spending represents a 13.5 per cent increase over the previous fiscal year. In the 2023 budget, the government promised to spend 17 per cent less on consulting and other professional services in 2023-24, with the aim of saving $7.1 billion over five years. That same year the Treasury Board released new guidance for managers to determine when to seek external expertise. However, the government has curbed the growth in spending on management consultants, which remained unchanged from the previous year.
