Talking point: Ford’s harsh words for Immigration Minister Lena Metlege Diab were the sourest part of the closing news conference at the premiers’ summer meeting in Huntsville, Ont., where Manitoba’s Wab Kinew compared both federal and provincial leaders to heroic firefighters putting out an economic blaze lit by U.S. President Donald Trump. Even Alberta’s Danielle Smith and B.C.’s David Eby, who have been at odds over Alberta’s wish for a new oil pipeline to the Pacific, emphasized the many other things they do agree on. Eby said that if a proponent makes a specific proposal for such a project (which Smith said she’s working on, for a new version of the Northern Gateway plan), B.C. is “absolutely willing to have those conversations.”
