Talking point: When Sidewalk Labs scrapped plans for a Toronto hub last year, Miovision CEO Kurtis McBride said it was an opportunity for Canadian companies to define their own business models without the influence of a foreign multinational. Firms like Miovision and non-profits like Innovate Cities now seem to be forging ahead. Traffop makes standalone software that tracks the traffic signals and flow of 1,400 U.S. intersections. In an email to The Logic, Miovision communications director Tony Florio wouldn’t disclose the value of the deal—the first since Miovision raised $120 million last year to expand and grow its workforce—but it adds just six staffers to the team.
