South Simcoe Police Service said it has identified more than 300 victims in an investigation that began in March and recovered a stolen vehicle, $90,000 worth of jewelry and other items that were mailed and shipped to 16 areas in central Ontario. About 260 million parcels were taken in the U.S. last year, according to an annual report from SafeWise, up by 50 million packages from the previous year. In Canada, one in four people had at least one package stolen last year, according to a FedEx Express Canada survey. This isn’t the first time police in Canada have busted an alleged porch pirate operation. Hamilton police arrested three people and laid 56 charges in a 2021 investigation dubbed project AmaGone.
