Talking point: It’s the second venture-capital deal led by an OMERS fund this week. OMERS Growth Equity led a US$35.6-million Series C in Boston-based procurement solutions firm Fairmarkit, the company announced Thursday. The pace of deal-making is at odds with the overall slowdown in venture capital, as inflation, high interest rates and the market downturn have made investors more cautious. OMERS Ventures partner Shawn Chance told The Logic in July that the fund intended to maintain its level of investing while other firms back off. “We have the benefit of having OMERS’s ongoing, long-term, proven commitment to this asset class,” he said. “It doesn’t really matter what the markets are doing because we have to deploy capital for our pensioners.”
