Lightspeed said it will cover travel costs for employees travelling out-of-state for reproductive care, while Nuvei will give U.S. employees up to US$4,000 if they choose to relocate to a state where abortion is legal. (The Logic, Le Journal de Montréal)
Talking point: The two Montreal-based tech companies are the latest Canadian firms to announce changes to their benefits for U.S. employees in response to last week’s Supreme Court decision allowing states to outlaw abortion. Since then, a number of states have either fully or partially banned the practice, including Ohio, Texas and Alabama. Scotiabank said last week that it will cover travel costs for U.S. employees seeking abortions if they live in states where access to the procedure is restricted, along with other Canadian financial-services companies including Manulife and Sun Life.
