Talking point: The Liberal government plans to legislate a one-year timeline to assess major infrastructure projects. Ottawa said it will “be moving quickly to introduce legislation” after the consultation period ends June 7. “The substance of the proposals and the constrained timeline for consultation are not acceptable and threaten First Nations’ rights in many aspects,” Woodhouse Nepinak told the Star. She warned against repeating past fights over fast-tracking projects. “We support economic growth and prosperity for all, but not at the expense of our rights or the Crown’s legal obligations to our people.”
