A consortium led by Quebec’s Espace Aéro will get $29.6 million over two years to establish a joint military-commercial-academic development site for uncrewed military vehicles, Defence Minister David McGuinty announced. Other participants include CAE and Marconi. (The Logic)
Talking point: The funding is for a new Defence Innovation Secure Hub, or DISH, a secure area where multiple contributors can work together to turn earlier-stage technologies into weapons and devices the Canadian Forces (and potentially other militaries) can deploy. They focus on capabilities that the federal government considers important for Canadian sovereignty, and in which the country can excel. The first, established in Halifax last year, is working on maritime tech.
