Talking point: The sector includes dozens of companies in the region working in biotech, medical devices and other areas, including anchor firm AbCellera. These firms, which employ some 15,500 people, told Invest Vancouver wet lab space is “the most critical need,” a problem across Canada. As my colleague Catherine reported, Canadian startups require millions more square feet of lab space than is available, with some turning to the U.S. The report comes a day after B.C. released its life sciences strategy, which also underscores the need to grow wet lab space and attract more talent.
